This is primarily for my own use as a reference, so I do not have to look up the same terms again and again. It may be useful to others, but I am not an expert here. As far as I understand, the reason why the Tibetan words are transcribed one way and pronounced another way is this. Wylie developed a system so that for every Tibetan letter you could use a particular key on a normal keyboard (typewriter), but it was impossible to match them all and also make them correspond to western phonetics. Also, Tibetan words have conservative spelling that they retain even though the spoken language has developed over time in a different way.
